The SAARC Agriculture Centre has a library that provides information and literature support to researchers, professionals, teachers, and students from different institutions of the country, the region and beyond. Our mission is to provide timely, reliable and comprehensive information to users working in agriculture and allied fields. The Library is automated. A Bibliographical database of all books and journals available at the Library has been prepared using WINISIS software. To strengthen the library services to users in the country and abroad, the Centre has taken initiative to introduce another library automation software. In 2006 the Library has introduced Digital Audio Visual Services. The Library has a collection of more than 4,500 volumes of books, 560 bound periodicals, current periodicals of 317 titles, annual reports and 15 daily newspapers from SAARC member countries to facilitate current reading on different disciplines/ subjects to keep abreast of the latest developments in agriculture and allied fields in the region. CD-ROM search service is also available. There are at present 14 CDs on different fields of agriculture and allied subjects. These are: Agricola (1970-2006); Beast (1973-1999); Biological Abstracts (1995-97); Cab Abstracts (1990-2006); Crop (1993-2006); FSTA (1990-2006); Horticulture (1973-2003); Parasite (1973-2003); Parasitology (1972-2006); Plant Genetics & Breeding (1993-2005); Plant Gene (1973-2004); Soil (1973-2006); Tree (1939-2004); Vet (1973-2006).
The services can be provided on request through E-mail. Presently the Library renders the following information services:

CD-ROM search services; In addition, the following services are also available:
Bibliographical services: A Bibliographic database of all books and journals are available at the Centre’s Library in printed format. Current awareness services: Newspaper articles related to agriculture and allied subjects are provided to 100 R&D organizations of the SAARC countries. Updated information on books and journals are provided in every quarter of the year. Photocopy services: Provided for necessary pages of books, journals and magazines as per user’s requirements. Digital Audio Visual services:The Library has introduced digital audio-visual services for its users. User can borrow one Video CD at a time for seven days from the VCD list available in the library.
Mention may be made here that, the Centre will start internet search service to users very soon.
Books and journals are kept in open shelves system. Reader’s can take any book or journal from the shelf as desired.
A list of all library materials is available to users. The database is searchable by authors, titles, subjects and call numbers. To determine the location and status of any book/journal not on the shelf, one may contact the library staff for assistance.

The Library remains open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday except Friday and Saturday and on other government holidays. No membership provision is required here. Any student, teacher, researcher, professional, from any institutions of the country, the region and beyond can use the library.
