Director's Message PDF Print E-mail
It is my proud privilege and feels myself honoured to take over the Charge of Director, SAARC Agriculture Centre on 28th August, 2009 from Dr. Wais Kabir, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, Dhaka . The good work started by all of my predecessors will be carried forward to maintain the sanctity and fame of the Centre as well as for the development of the South Asian Region. I am quite confident that this Centre will work towards fulfilling the basic aim of SAARC countries, i.e. alleviate poverty, hunger and other forms of deprivation from South Asia , which is no doubt a daunting challenge. But I have a strong belief that Professionals and GSSs of SAARC Agriculture Centre can take up this broader challenge through increasing agricultural productivity and incomes of the farming communities of this region to reduce poverty and thereby contribute to their improved living standards. More specifically, SAARC Agriculture Centre faces the challenges of reaching out to its widely dispersed clients and making relevant and useful information readily available in order to facilitate strengthening research and expediting agricultural development. Despite many challenges, SAARC Agriculture Centre will strive hard to provide only its best products and services by keeping itself at pace with new technological advancements through continuous efforts on capacity building of its human resources and a balanced development and efficient utilisation of its infrastructure.

Over the last few years the Centre saw itself fostering closer linkages with its clients and undertaking more participatory, demand driven and stronger programme building exercises. SAARC Agriculture Centre braces itself to face the challenges boldly, and being positive in its approach, always looks forward to with optimism. As one of the SAARC regional centres of excellence with the mandate to act as a key player in R & D, innovations and technology exchange, the Centre harnesses the tools of information and communication technologies (ICT) for facilitating exchange knowledge and information on best practices to accelerate regional cooperation.

It is my great pleasure to take up this challenging job and make this centre visible through its good work to the global agricultural arena.  Website of this Centre reflects our mandate, programmes, priorities and strategies that, we hope, will live up to the next decade.

Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Mondal
Director
