Welcome to SAARC Agriculture Centre
The SAARC Agriculture Centre, which is located at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) complex, Dhaka, Bangladesh, is the first regional centre of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). SAARC consists of eight countries, namely, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Centre was established on 8 December 1985 with the aim of accelerating the process of economic and social development among Member Countries through joint action in the agreed areas of cooperation. It started functioning from 1989.

Report on Observance of 24th SAARC Charter Day |
|
The 24th SAARC Charter Day was observed in
Dhaka, Bangladesh on 8 December 2009. In observance of the SAARC Charter Day the SAARC Agriculture Centre (SAC) organized a seminar at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), Farmgate,
Dhaka . Dr. Mangala Rai, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Govt. of India and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research presented the Keynote paper on "Agriculture in SAARC Countries: Perspectives and Future" as the Guest of Honour.
Begum Matia Chowdhury, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of the People's Republic of
Bangladesh graced the auspicious occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. CQK Mustaq Ahmed, Secretary, Ministry of
Agriculture, Bangladesh presided over the seminar. About three hundred scientists from the different NARS institutes, Director Generals, Academicians from different agricultural universities, experts from Government and non-Government organizations, representative from High Commissions/Embassies of SAARC Countries, FAO, and other organizations were present in the occasion. Among others, Dr. Wais Kabir, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council also expressed his views on the occasion.
Prior to the seminar, an SAC exhibition of Centre's products and services were inaugurated and also eight pigeons were released by guests.
